Barnwood Plank Dining Table

A barnwood dining table is made from the barn structure (or old buildings) itself, whereby the planks are dislodged and used to make dining tables. Hence, the name barnwood plank dining table. This way, you can say that the tables are made from used or reclaimed wood.

Planks are flat, straight pieces of wood. They are used to make tabletop for the kitchen table.

Barnwood is a an aged wood. If you are into vintage, distressed or antique dining tables, you will like these tables. Some people even call them recycled or refurbished dining tables too. These tables are also known as farm tables.

Features

These tables often come in rectangular shapes only. It is rare to find them in any other shapes. You will be lucky if you can find a round barnwood table.

They have inconsistent and visible grain due to the aging of the wood, therefore giving you the old, rustic look. But this gives the table its very own personality too.

Are they high in quality? Yes they are. Refurbished woods have to go through many manufacturing processes even before they can be used to make solid tables. There is an entire industry dedicated to the wood refurbishing business since the 80s.

90% of the time, they are constructed using multiple planks that are joined together in parallel, forming the table top.

But sometimes the table top doesn't look like that. Instead, some may even have unique and different plank arrangements simply because they are made from deconstructed old barns. In other words, it depends on the recycled wood material.

Benefits

Matches your kitchen very well if you are living in the country side. This is because houses over there are generally more attuned to nature. Countryside houses are mostly distinguished by their natural wood architecture.

Barnwood tables have a lot of character. You can see this is true for the different stain and style of the tables. Each table has its own look with its own finish too.

If you have a lot of handcrafted furniture at home, the table suits you.

If you don't like most modern or contemporary tables, the barnwood plank dining tables give you a extra choice. You don't have to settle with newer furniture designs every time.

If you (want to) own a classic "cowboy" bar, you simply cannot choose other table types. The barnwood dining table is your best bet for a coffee table like old times.

Did you know that you are helping nature? When you purchase these barnwood dining tables, you discourage the cutting of various forest trees. Where did you think those wooden dining tables come from then? You are being a good and well-informed environmentalist this way.

Tips

Barnwood tables that are made from walnut wood have a more subtle effect. Walnut is darker than oak too. Oak wood is very light in color and tone. When it comes to table color, it depends on your kitchen area decor.

They are not that cheap to purchase, despite being recycled from old barns. The manufacturing process of the wood requires much cost.

How do you know if it really reclaimed woods? Well, be careful. Some manufacturers might sell you dining tables made from a fell tree log. When buying a barnwood plank dining table, look for the RWC certified stamp. RWC stands for Reclaimed Wood Council, in which the body regulates all wood suppliers' code of ethical conduct.

If you want to check further, you, as a customer have the rights to ask for records and documents of the table processing history from the manufacturer.

This rustic barnwood furniture might not be beautiful to look at first sight. But as time progresses, you will realize that old is gold. Many people have claimed that barnwood tables have become more of a pleasure to look at as time goes by, as if these tables have some sort of inner beauty in them.
