Rosewood Dining Table

When you buy a rosewood dining table, you are looking at a very expensive but elegant dining room furniture! The rosewood dining tables are considered luxury dining tables because of the wood (rosewood) being used. Rosewood is a hardwood type.

Features

The color is dark brown with a little red. Its appears as a dark brownish red wood, containing a little cherry (red) too. Due to its color alone, this wood is very beautiful. Its has close grain look.

Rosewood is an oily wood type. This means it can be hard to apply finishing onto the wood. Waxing rosewood is also not effective. This makes it a type of wood that is hard to process, hence its higher manufacturing costs.

It can be hard to find rosewood dining tables. This is because rosewood is an expensive wood to purchase and manufacture, besides its rarity and high demand.

Rosewood also looks similar to the striped ebony wood. They both might look the same but they are actually 2 different woods.

Types

Indian rosewood

Cheaper than Brazillian rosewood. It is easier to find an Indian rosewood dining table too.

Brazillian rosewood

A rare species which is harder and more dense. This type is rare and therefore very expensive to buy.

The alternative to rosewood is the Bubinga wood. But this wood is also as expensive. Its other common terms are:

  • African rosewood
  • essingang
  • kevazingo (rotary-cut veneer)

Benefits

Your rosewood kitchen table can last for decades if you take care of it.

Very stable and sturdy due to its heavy weight. You can dine in peace at home in your kitchen everytime.

It has a hard but pleasant smell, which defines the rosewood.

Tips

In Asia, you will find Chinese dining table designs to be common. Chances are, suppliers for rosewood dining tables are in the mentioned location.

Rosewood tables can fade in color over time. The colors become brighter instead of the original dark, rosewood color. You can restore the rosewood original color if you sand the wood. When sanding the veneer, the key is not overdoing it. Don't sand it too much and you'll be fine.

How to cure scratches? Some people have been known to use paste wax as a "finish" to hide the scratch marks.

Sometimes, the dining table top is made from rosewood veneer. Veneer means the small layer of wood (usually 3mm thick) applied on the table top as an extra layer. Therefore, only the top part consists of rosewood material.

You have to match the table with rosewood dining chairs because of the strong rosewood color. Otherwise, when you try to sell the rosewood dining table, people won't buy it due to the color difference. Remember, rosewood is a dark red wood. There is a huge contrast if you use any lighter colored wood for the chairs, which does not look good for your dining table set.

When you go looking for a rosewood dining table, make sure you have enough money to pay for its high price tag. Therefore, you'll be very lucky if you find companies selling their rosewood dining tables at a lower price.
