Wenge Dining Table

Wenge wood is a very dark brown wood. It is so dark until there is almost no brown element. In fact, it looks
almost 100% black from afar. Wenge is a hardwood that is very heavy, dense and straight grained. Therefore, even a
small living room table that is made from wenge wood can easily weigh over a hundred pounds.
Features
Who should use wenge dining tables? If you like modern and contemporary furniture designs, go
for wenge tables.
Other similar names of the wenge wood:
- dikela
- mibotu
- African palisander
The wood is moderately priced itself. But it is notorious for its high difficulty during the processing of the
wood. Therefore, this makes it quite expensive to purchase for the end user (customer).
Wenge finish?
Sometimes, you will stumble across tables which have their description stating wenge finishing. What does this
mean? It simply means the table is not made from real wenge wood, but is stained with wenge finishing. The wenge
finish gives the impression that the table is made from wenge wood, when actually it is not. Tables which are made
from 100% real wenge wood are much more expensive than tables with wenge finishing (other wood type) only.
Benefits
It is hard to stain your wenge dining table. If you spill something on the table, simply wipe it away and there
would not be any unusual spots later on. Although you can't notice dirt stains on your table, you should make it a
habit to clean your table frequently.
You will notice it only has one solid color. At most, there will be some straight lines due to its straight
grain. There is very little shade and tone variation on the wood. Its single dark blackish brown color gives you
the rich look overall. Elegance is what you get with the wenge dining table.
Like the rosewood, it is very sturdy. This makes it perfect for a dining table at home.
Tips
Match your dining chairs which have the same dark brown color and you can easily have an elegant kitchen dining
set. If not, a lighter brown like beige can also work as fine.
When in doubt, ask yourself whether you want your wenge dining table to last a long time or not. If yes, invest
more and go for full solid wenge wood. This way, your table is more resistant towards heat and water. In addition,
you can always sand the table if anything goes wrong. However, you cannot do this with tables having wenge veneer
or finish, the cheaper alternative.
The next time you go out looking for a wenge table, make sure you can differentiate real wenge wood from wenge
finishing or wenge veneer only. This is a really important step when buying a wenge dining table.
